When finally getting round to getting married for the second time, I wanted an old fashioned afternoon tea reception, and I certainly wasn't disappointed with the outcome! The overall look was amazing! And tea, sandwiches and cake all just added to a perfect afternoon!

Everybody was so enthusiastic and excited at the prospect of trying to source these goods. Good friends and I spent the next year searching antique shops, charity shops and even car boot sales trying desperately to find everything that we needed to achieve the overall look.   The day was a complete success, one that we will always remember for everyone involved.

After getting over the exhaustion of arranging your own wedding, then came the dilemma, what do I now do with all this bone china cups and saucers, tea pots, sugar shakers, sugar bowls, milk jugs, cake stands etc.,

I definitely decided that I loved it all so much that I couldn't bear to part with it and also that it would be such a shame if it ended back up in china cabinets, cupboards, given away or at worst put up in lofts never to be seen again.

Then we came up with the great idea to try and recreate this for other peoples weddings, with the same attention to detail and a passion for making their day just as special as ours was.   Also within this economic crisis that we are experiencing, this is one sure way to enjoy a sensational day without the exorbitant prices that we can be charged for a three course wedding breakfast.

Don’t misunderstand me, if we all had the money to enjoy a lavish sit down meal for our wedding party, this can be a lovely experience.

But we also find that most people find that they then have to decrease the number of guests that they invite to their reception purely due to expense and not choice.

But, with having a reception of afternoon tea, this considerably reduces these costs and allows your numbers to be as you first envisaged and not leaving you feeling disappointed having to leave people of your list.

Vintage T was born and we find that we are very privilege to deliver this service but also that we are doing something that we love.   After all, most of these items probably were bought for wedding presents or wedding anniversaries in the first place! What a great way to recycle them and give so much pleasure many years later for the next generations to appreciate.

For us just the comments from the older generations at functions are what we find the most rewarding.  They comment on certain patterns or makes of bone china that they remember being given in the same way in the past, and also how much nicer a cup of tea tastes firstly coming from a teapot, but also drinking from a vintage bone china cup and saucer.

We then decided that it would also be nice to expand our service to include birthday parties, wedding anniversaries, baby showers and wakes or any celebration which afternoon tea would become a great social event for all involved.

We feel that providing the age old tradition of afternoon tea is one that should be preserved and hopefully in the future this great British pastime will continue.
